Full review

Surcare is the only product in this guide that we’d recommend buying regardless of cost-per-wash, because for the households that need it, the cost calculation is largely irrelevant, Surcare works when nothing else does.

The formula is the strictest non-bio liquid on the UK market: no enzymes, no synthetic fragrance, no optical brighteners, no dyes. It carries the Allergy UK seal of approval, which is one of the few third-party certifications in this category that requires actual testing rather than self-declaration. Dermatologists routinely recommend it for eczema-prone children and adults with chemical sensitivities.

Cleaning performance on everyday loads is solid. The trade-off, and Surcare is honest about this, is that without enzymes, heavy stains (grass, food, blood) need pre-treating. For households where the alternative is dermatological flare-ups, that’s an easy trade.

The 50-wash pack format is the only real complaint. Surcare’s parent company hasn’t released a 100+ wash bulk equivalent, which means the per-wash cost stays around 15p, substantially more than the larger Persil or Daz packs. If you have multiple sensitive-skin people in the same household, this adds up.

Subscribe & Save isn’t enabled for Surcare on Amazon UK, which is a missed trick by the manufacturer. The pack is also not always in stock. Keep an eye on alternative listings and consider buying two or three at a time when it’s available.

Buy this if: anyone in your household has eczema, dermatitis, fragrance sensitivities, or you’re washing baby clothes and want to be cautious about residues.

Skip this if: nobody has sensitivities, the cost premium isn’t worth it for purely-preventative use.
