Oven Pride Complete Deep Cleaning Kit is the £6 alternative to a professional oven clean (which costs £60–100 in most UK cities). It works. We’ve seen ovens left uncleaned for two years come out looking close to new after a single application, though the process requires care and the right preparation.
The kit includes a heavy caustic gel and a sealable bag for the racks. You remove the racks, place them in the bag with most of the gel, seal, and leave overnight. The remaining gel goes on the oven interior walls (door glass, floor, sides), also typically overnight for serious build-up. The following day you remove racks from the bag, rinse, wipe out the oven interior, and rinse again.
The active ingredient is sodium hydroxide, concentrated caustic alkali. Treat it with the respect that level of chemistry deserves. The supplied gloves are essential; the supplied bag is essential; ventilation throughout is essential. Don’t get this on your skin (it will cause burns), in your eyes, or onto coloured surfaces (it bleaches and damages).
For self-cleaning or catalytic-lined ovens, check the manufacturer’s care guide before using. Some modern oven linings are specifically incompatible with caustic cleaners.
