Astonish Oven & Cookware Cleaner Paste is one of the unexpectedly-good cleaning products in the UK supermarket and Amazon ranges. £2.50 for a 150g tub that lasts most households 6+ months, and it shifts burnt-on residue from oven shelves, cookware, and BBQ grates that’s been there for years.
The format is a thick paste, not a spray or foam. You apply it directly to the residue with a damp cloth or sponge, work it in with light pressure, leave for 5–10 minutes, then rinse. Faster than Oven Pride’s overnight soak, slower than a spray. The result on burnt cookware is second-to-none.
The formula is non-caustic. The active ingredient is a mild abrasive plus a degreasing soap, not sodium hydroxide. This means you can use it without the gloves-and-ventilation routine that Oven Pride demands. For routine cookware restoration, that’s a meaningful practical advantage.
Where Astonish Oven Paste shines specifically:
- Burnt-on residue on oven shelves (the metal grills, not the oven walls)
- Saucepans where food has burnt and won’t come off with washing-up liquid
- BBQ grates after a summer’s use
- Cast-iron seasoning that’s gone wrong (with care)
- Hob spillover residue around the burner rings
It’s less effective for full-oven-interior cleaning. The paste format doesn’t suit a vertical-walls-and-floor application the way Oven Pride’s gel does. For that job, Oven Pride remains the right product.
The fragrance is mild. Neutral with a slight citrus note, much easier to live with than the heavy chemistry of Cilit Bang or Oven Pride.
Subscribe & Save isn’t enabled, which is fine, the tub lasts so long that you’d never need monthly delivery.
Made in the UK (Bradford), vegan, cruelty-free, same Astonish ethos as the Multi-Surface Cream.
Buy this if: you have burnt cookware or oven shelves that need restoration, and you want a non-caustic alternative to Oven Pride.
Skip this if: you specifically need a full-oven-interior cleaner (use Oven Pride), or you cook so little that nothing ever burns.
