Full review

Ecover Zero Non-Bio is the laundry detergent for households that want both a strict eco formula AND the gentleness of a non-bio. The product manages to be both, at a real cost premium over Persil Non-Bio or even Surcare.

The formula skips bio enzymes (so it’s suitable for sensitive skin), synthetic fragrance, optical brighteners, and the synthetic cleaning agents that most non-bio liquids still use. The result is one of the most stringently-formulated UK laundry detergents available on Amazon.

Cleaning performance is competent on everyday loads. Where it lags Persil Non-Bio is on stain-shifting. The plant-based cleaning agents are gentler on stains as well as on skin, so you’ll pre-treat or re-run for serious grass and food stains.

At 17p per wash on the 50-wash bottle, it’s noticeably more expensive than Persil Non-Bio’s 14.6p per wash for its 130-wash bulk pack. The pack size is the main cost driver, Ecover doesn’t offer a 130-wash equivalent.

The Allergy UK seal applies to the Zero variant specifically. If a fragrance-sensitive or eczema-prone household member is also the kind of person who cares about avoiding harsh chemicals, this is the only detergent we’d recommend that ticks both boxes.

Compared directly to Surcare Non-Bio (which we also recommend for sensitive-skin use): Ecover Zero is more strictly eco-formulated; Surcare is more deeply targeted at allergy avoidance specifically. They’re close substitutes, pick based on which framing matters more to you.

Buy this if: you want both non-bio (sensitive skin) AND plant-based eco, and the cost premium isn’t an issue.

Skip this if: you only need sensitive-skin (cheaper to use Persil Non-Bio bulk), or only need eco (consider Bio-D or Method laundry alternatives).
