Verdict
Sun All-in-1 is the value-shopper's default. For a household that runs the dishwasher once a day on average loads, it costs about a third of Finish Quantum and the difference in cleaning is small.
Pros
- Cheapest per tab on this list
- All-in-one means no separate rinse aid or salt
- Reliable on everyday loads
- Lemon scent is mild
Cons
- Less effective on burnt-on residue
- Wrapper is not water-soluble, peel before use
- Not the strongest on hard water
Full review
Sun All-in-1 is the dishwasher tab equivalent of supermarket own-brand. Cheap, unflashy, and good enough that the price difference vs the premium brands stops mattering for most households.
At 8p per tab (7.2p on Subscribe & Save), it’s the cheapest tab on this list by a wide margin. Cleaning performance on everyday loads is genuinely fine: plates, glasses, lightly-greasy frying pans, average cutlery, Sun handles all of them without leaving residue. The lemon scent is mild enough not to linger on the glassware.
Where Sun falls short is on the harder jobs. Baked-on lasagne edges, hard-water limescale spots on glasses, anything that needs serious enzyme activity, you’ll be re-running or hand-finishing. For a household that pre-rinses or runs a relatively clean dishwasher, this isn’t a problem. For households running heavily-soiled cycles where someone refuses to pre-rinse, it’s worth paying more for Finish Powerball or Quantum.
The non-soluble wrapper is the practical annoyance. You peel it off each tab before placing in the dispenser, about 4 seconds of extra effort per cycle. The Finish, Fairy, and Method tabs all use water-soluble wrappers. Sun’s wrapper is recyclable but doesn’t dissolve, and you’ll occasionally find a half-dissolved wrapper in the bottom of the dishwasher if you forget to peel.
The 100-tab pack lasts a household of two about 3–4 months on daily use. Subscribe & Save at quarterly cadence works well.
Buy this if: you want the cheapest competent dishwasher tab on Amazon UK, run mostly average loads, and don’t mind the wrapper-peel routine.
Skip this if: you have hard water (Fairy Platinum Plus is better), refuse to pre-rinse heavily-soiled items (Finish Quantum), or want septic-tank-safe (Ecover).
